How do you make fast and tasty bone soup?

We whipped up three delectable beef bone soups:

Vietnamese Pho Bo Beef Soup, Indonesian Soto Beef Soup, and Hakka Ngiu Chap Beef Soup. We employed a clever trick often used by food vendors to make these soups quickly and deliciously.

How do you make a speedy bone soup?

Our answer to this question came about unexpectedly. We initially planned to buy beef bones from the supermarket, but the high prices, especially considering we were making three types of beef soup, made us reconsider our approach. That's when we thought of using beef bouillon. This handy ingredient allows us to bypass the need to pre-boil, pre-wash, or simmer for hours as we would with real bones.

How do you make a tasty bone soup?

The secret lies in the beef bouillon, packed with MSG. MSG, or monosodium glutamate, is a flavor enhancer that imparts a savory, umami taste to dishes. It's like a magic wand that transforms a simple soup into a bowl of rich, deep flavors that dance on your tongue. Every spoonful of soup becomes a delightful experience, with the taste of hearty beef lingering in your mouth.

10 Common Ingredients

Despite their different names and origins, our three soups share ten common ingredients:

- 2 tbsp of Oil
- 1 Onion
- 3 Shallots
- 30g Ginger
- 5 cloves of Garlic
- Cinnamon
- Star Anise
- Black Pepper
- 500ml Water
- 1 Beef Bouillon

Indonesian Soto Soup

First on our list is the Indonesian Soto Soup, the most challenging recipe of the three. It requires eight special ingredients, in addition to the ten common ones:

- Lemongrass
- ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
- 3 Cloves
- 4 Cardamom
- ½ tsp Fennel Seeds
- ½ tsp Coriander Seeds
- Sliced Chilies
- ½ tablespoon of Tamarind Juice

If the soup isn’t salty enough for your liking, feel free to add some salt and pepper. The Soto soup, with its tangy tamarind twist, scores a 6 out of 10. It loses some points due to its complex ingredient list, but its unique flavor makes it worth the effort.

Vietnamese Pho Bo Beef Soup

Next up is the Vietnamese Pho Beef Soup, slightly less complex than the Soto soup. It requires six additional ingredients:

- 3 Cloves
- 4 Cardamom
- ½ tsp Fennel
- ½ tsp Coriander
- 1 tablespoon of Fish Sauce
- 1 teaspoon of Sugar

This soup earns a 9 out of 10 for its flavorful and umami taste, largely thanks to the fish sauce. Tasting this dish is akin to experiencing a symphony of flavors!

Hakka Ngiu Chap Beef Soup

Lastly, we have the Hakka Ngiu Chap Beef Soup, the simplest of the three. After incorporating the ten common ingredients, you'll need to add four more:

- ½ tsp of Five-Spice Powder
- 1 tbsp of Light Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp of Dark Soy Sauce
- 1 tbsp of Rice Wine

We take pride in brewing our own rice wine, adding a personal touch to our recipes. This Hakka soup is not just tasty, but it also fills the air with an irresistible aroma. It scores a solid 7 out of 10 for its quick and easy preparation.
